Bur Dubai is termed as one of the oldest region of Dubai city. This portion is located towards the west of Dubai Creek. This district is separated from Deira district through the Dubai Creek. The name Bur Dubai literally means Mainland Dubai which marks to its traditional separation from other districts. This district previously was home to all the districts of Dubai city located between the Dubai Creek and Jumeirah. Bur Dubai is home to many of the famous mosques of the city. One of the most popular one is the Grand Mosque. Other prominent ones are Iranian Mosque and a Hindi Temple located between Grand Mosque and Dubai Creek.
The Bur Dubai district houses many famous historical landmarks and museums. Also here you can find some of the finest shopping malls, markets and souks. The famous textile Souk is also located here close to the Abra Boat Station. Bur Dubai is also home to the famous Al Bastakiya historic area which is located towards the eastern part of Al Fahidi Fort. This area is present day Dubai Museum. Bur Dubai has undergone extensive development work and now this district enjoys being one of the most famous residential areas with many impressive apartments’ buildings here.
