Sheikh Zayed Road is a highway also termed as E 11 in Dubai city. This road is also named as Sheikh Maktoum Road in Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Muhammed bin Salem Road in Ras Al Khaimah. The two largest cities of the Emirates are connected and linked through this road including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This project was proposed by the Sheikhs of Abu Dhabi and Dubai and was approved by Sheikh Zayed in the year 1971 when the construction work for this project began. It took almost nine years and this project was completed in the year 1980. This highway begins from Maqta Bridge in Abu Dhabi and later it is turned in to Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai city.
The road is named after the president of UAE at that time, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This road features some of the tallest and most impressive skyscrapers of Dubai city which includes the world famous Burj Khalifa and the Emirates Tower. Other famous attractions that can be explored through this road include Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Waterfront, Dubai Marina and many others. The Red Line of Dubai Metro also runs along this road. The interchanges of this road connections to all the major tourist attractions of Dubai city.
