
Dubai zoo is situated opposite to Jumerirah Beach. Dubai Zoo is the oldest in the city and has small collection of animals. It offers unique animals as well as other species including plants like Barbary sheep, Socotra Shag, Bengal Tigers, Arabian wolves, Gorillas and Siberian Tigers. Dubai zoo has around 230 species of animals.
Barbary sheep which is also known as Ammotragus Lervia is a kind of goat antelope. This sheep was then introduced to other regions towards the south of Europe. This sheep has originally come from North Africa.
Socotra Shags or Cormorants are from Persian Gulf. These seabirds have large, voracious, dark-colored and long-necked with a distensible pocket for holding fish. Socotra Shags looks like a bird most of the tourists are attracted to this huge animal with unusual body shape.
Some of the animals used to restrict Arabian Peninsula are subspecies of Gray Wolf, Arabian Wolves. Wolves are seen very rare, they are just found in the interiors of Israel, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. One of the unique attractions in Dubai Zoo is Arabian Wolves.
Siberian Tigers, also called Amur Tigers which are found in the forests of Korea, Manchuria, eastern Asia and northern China. These tigers are usually found in cold and harsh land and brought up in extremely low temperatures. Dubai zoo has created conditions for the preservation of Siberian Tigers as well as Bengal Tigers and many other animals of these kinds.
